Please tell us about your career before InfraRed
Prior to InfraRed (then HSBC) I worked as an analyst in the Group Strategy team at AMP, an Australian financial services company.
Which aspects appealed to you about our organisation?
I was initially interested in InfraRed’s specialist focus on Infrastructure equity while the sector was still in its infancy. Similarly the launch of the LSE-listed fund, HICL, was a first in the UK market and underscored InfraRed’s innovative culture. It was also clear early on that the team had a ‘big family’ ethos about it; people had generally worked together for a long time and took a genuine interest in each other – this appealed to me.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
I get to work with some fantastic, high calibre people from all parts of the world on a daily basis. It’s very much a low-ego environment and invariably there is a real sense of camaraderie and support around the work at hand. I also believe that InfraRed operates as a genuine meritocracy; the business prides itself on developing talent from within and then providing ample opportunity for career development. I started at InfraRed as an analyst in London and have had the opportunity to work across funds, investment strategies, sectors and offices, having now worked in London, Sydney and London again(!).
What advice would you give to others considering a role here?
Get involved. Throw yourself into it all aspects of the business, genuinely engage with people and seize opportunities to pitch in. This is a people business and those that do well at InfraRed are genuine and considerate, have great relationships across the business and roll up their sleeves.
Fast facts about you
My wife and I hail from Sydney, Australia and have two young girls, Jasmine and Sadie. We are keen travellers and equally partial to the beach and snow. In my spare time I enjoy a hit of tennis or hacking my way around the golf course with friends.
